Sacha Baron Cohen is brilliant
So I’m probably the last person to say this. But Talladega Nights just popped up on TV. Sacha Baron Cohen is amazing in it. His every scene is hilarious1.
I remember first watching him on the Channel 4 (British) series Da Ali G Show. I was so impressed by his depth of character and commitment to the performance that I instantly thought I was watching a young Peter Sellers2. When I first heard that the film, The Pink Panther, was to be remade, Sacha was the only person I could imagine possibly doing the role of Inspector Clouseau justice. Of course, the role went to some other guy3.
I’m looking forward to watching his next project.

- I can’t say the film doesn’t have problems, especially when it starts to take the racing action seriously or does fancy and irrelevant CG camera moves through the racecars, but Sacha’s great [↩]
- It was a nice surprise to read the page of Sacha Baron Cohen related trivia on the imdb and find that “He considers Peter Sellers to be his greatest influence”. I swear I hadn’t known that when I had the instant thought I just described. Really. [↩]
- No slouch himself, if all you know of Steve Martin is Pink Panther or Cheaper By the Dozen, you owe yourself a trip to the video store to rent a copy of The Jerk [↩]
