The Scarlet Kitty

Hello-Kitty-Thai-Police-Det2
From an Associated Press article:
Thai police officers who break police rules will be forced to wear hot pink armbands featuring “Hello Kitty,” the Japanese icon of cute, as a mark of shame, a senior officer said Monday.

Are Thai police officers so excessively macho that they consider the wearing of Hello Kitty gear to be a punishment? Maybe for really severe offenses such delinquent officers should be required to host tea parties with the department’s doll collection.

I think the armband is kind of cool, it should be made part of the official uniform even for officers who don’t break the rules.

The AP article is a short summary of a Bangkok Post story that includes this photo and additional cultural information that make the idea seem slightly less bizarre.
